2026 resolutions
(this blog post is a "posting the rough draft" kind of post. no fancy grammar checkers or planning ahead.)
Growing up, I didn't understand the point of New Year's Resolutions. It seemed like a silly thing you picked arbitrarily on December 31st, never to think about again after the first week of January. I never heard of people sticking to their resolutions, it was always about failure and trying again next year. So it didn't make sense to bother with them as an adult. Then I was diagnosed with ADHD at 32 years old, and started medication. Last year I met 5 of my New Year's Resolutions.
These are my resolutions for 2026, with explanations.
- Workout at least three times a week, up to 5.
I completely abandoned my workout routine before Thanksgiving last year, and I know workout out makes me feel better. - Keep my website and blog updated, monthly at minimum.
I really enjoy having this slice of the internet just to myself. I love piddling around on my Tumblr, but I really appreciate the freedom of design on my website, and long form blogging for getting out my thoughts. - Be more "chalant".
I've always been a passive person, taught at a young age that women should be quiet and agreeable, never making waves. I want to learn how to take up space, how to show people how much I care about everything. - Be greedier.
Following the same thread as the previous one. I want to learn how to speak up for myself. - Read more books by diverse authors.
I started reading daily last year as part of my resolutions, and mostly read books suggested to me through social media and classics, leading to mostly white, straight authors. This year I'd like to have a more well-rounded reading experience. - Get out more.
I haven't done anything outside my home without my kids in over 2 years, and by myself for almost 5 years. I want to join queer bookclub, maybe play some Magic the Gathering, maybe bar trivia nights. - Listen to more music.
I didn't branch out much last year, mostly listening to the same handful of songs I've held on the last few years. - Run a half marathon.
I'm stupid and like hurting myself, and my friend said they'll do it with me, which makes me 3x dumber. I also think it'd be really fun? - Take a trip out of state.
I haven't left my state in 3 years now, aside from quick border state drives. There's so many lovely things out of state I'd love to visit.
